Specimen

specimen (noun, pl. specimens) – an individual item from a collection, in a strict sense only referring to a single individual, i. e., a single lichen thallus, a single mycelium etc.; sometimes used more liberally to denote several individuals, e. g., a piece of bark with several lichen thalli.
