squamulose (adjective; variant spelling: squamose) – forming squamules, referring to a growth form intermediate between crustose and foliose thalli, i. e., composed entirely of squamules; frequently forming extensive mats; sometimes erroneously also used in the sense of squamulate to refer to structures that are covered entirely with squamules.
