Thalline collar

thalline collar (noun, pl. thalline collars;ascocarp term) – a morphological term referring to an indistinctly differentiated rim of irregularly aggregated thalline material more or less loosely associated with the proper margin of a lecideine apothecium, resembling a thalline exciple, but much more irregular and lacking a distinctly differentiated anatomy of a true thalline exciple; present for example in Buellia (Diplotomma) alboatra.
