Vegetation tension zone

vegetation tension zone (noun,biogeography term, pl. vegetation tension zones) – a geographical belt along the periphery of the distribution area, where organisms or populations reach their natural distribution limit; e. g., the timberline, or transition zones between floristic kingdoms.
