apical cap (noun,ascus term, pl. apical caps; synonym: ascus cap) – a thickened layer of amyloid mucilage on the outside of the ascus apex, continuous with the fuzzy coat along the sides of the ascus; distinguished from the fuzzy coat only if more distinctly thickened; not identical with the axial mass or the apical cushion. This is:part of ascus.
