exoascus (noun,ascus term, pl. exoasci; synonym: exotunica) – the outer functional layer of a fissitunicate or semi-fissitunicate ascus. This functional layer is not always formed by the same ascus wall layers and the ultrastructure of exoasci from different ascus types is therefore not identical. Related terms: ascus wall layer, exotunica, expansible inner layer, fuzzy coat, gelin, tunica, tunicle, endoascus, ascoplasm. This is:part of ascus.
