irregular (adjective) – not regular, uneven, inconsistent, mixed, intermingled, with an uneven, not circular outline; e. g., (1) plectenchyma: hyphae without a predominant orientation, either loosely or tightly interwoven. Related terms: anticlinal, periclinal; (2) thallus margin: an irregularly lobed thallus margin has an uneven outline, with some longer and some shorter lobes; (3) branching pattern: without a distinct division pattern.
