Lobe

lobe (noun, pl. lobes; diminutive: lobule) – a ± flattened, elongated, dorsiventrally organized subunit of a foliose thallus, with a distinct upper and lower side. (1) A rounded to elongated subunit of a foliose (or squamulose or lobate) thallus; (2) occasionally also applied to protrusions from the margin of a thalline exciple.
