Epithecium

epithecium (noun, pl. epithecia;ascocarp term) – a distinct, additional layer of hyphae developed on the surface of a hymenium, formed by apical growth and branching of the paraphyses; in the strict sense only referring to a distinct plectenchyma developed on top of the hymenium, but frequently used more liberally and interchangeably with epihymenium. This is:part of ascocarp.
