apical (adjective;Position term; synonym: terminal) – at the tip, at the end; (1) generally used to refer to the position of structures, e. g., at the end or tip of the lobes or branches, at the tip of hyphae like paraphyses, etc.; (2) as applied to a perithecium: with an involucrellum around the ostiole only moderately extending towards the sides, in contrast to imperfect.
