position (noun, pl. positions) – the arrangement of structures in relation to other, separate parts of the entire organism; e. g., the medulla of a heteromerous lichen thallus is the layer of hyphae below the photobiont layer, the prothallus of a lichen forms a fringe along the thallus margin.
