Form
form (noun, pl. forms;nomenclature term;Latin: sl. forma, pl. formae) – a taxonomic rank below the species, although no general agreement exists, how this rank is to be used, it has been suggested that it might be best suited to describe different ecological adaptations within the same population, especially if these ecological adaptation results in different reproductive strategies, i. e., reproducing either sexually or asexually (see species pair); currently the rank "form" is rarely used in mycology or lichenology because it has been discredited by extensive use in the past, describing countless forms of a variable species; also see subspecies and variety.
