Gymnocarpous

gymnocarpous (adjective; variant spelling: gymnocarpic) – with an open development of the sporocarp, i. e., the meiosporangia (e. g., asci) not covered by wall layers during the development of the sporocarp; in an ascocarp with gymnocarpous ontogeny both the primordium and mature hymenium remain exposed and are not covered by the walls of the ascocarp.
