Isthmus

isthmus (noun, ascospore term,spore morphology term, pl. isthmuses; variant pl.: isthmi) – the narrow connection between two or several locules of a cell in a polarilocular spore; formed by endospore swellings that constrict the cell lumen of a spore into two or several locules; at a late stage of spore ontogeny typically closed by a spore septum.
