Lamina

lamina (noun, pl. laminae;ascocarp term; synonym: blade) – literally: blade, i. e., any flat and thin layer; (1) pertaining to a thallus: the flattened, spread-out and thin thallus of foliose lichens; (2) pertaining to the anatomy of an apothecium in Lecidea s. l. (sensu Hertel): more or less equivalent to the thecium s. str., but (if present) including the epithecium, i. e., the three layers that contain fertile structures – epihymenium (or epithecium) & hymenium & subhymenium (i. e., the ascogeneous hyphae), but excluding the lower exciple (i. e., the hypothecium s. str.).
