lectotype (noun, pl. lectotypes;nomenclature term) – a single specimen selected from a syntype by a later worker to clarify the type concept of a taxon; if several original collections, each with several specimens, exist as syntype, only one single specimen will have to be selected as the lectotype, duplicates of this particular specimen from the same collection become isolectotypes, however, all other specimens that are part of the original material but belong to different collections remain syntypes material, sometimes referred to as isosyntypes.
