paraphysis (noun, pl. paraphyses;ascocarp term) – a true paraphysis is an interascal hypha arising with the asci from the base of the ascocarp following an ascohymenial ontogeny; the term is, however, sometimes used rather loosely to refer to almost any interascal hyphae, whether of ascohymenial or ascolocular origin.
