Pre-ascal hypha

pre-ascal hypha (noun, pl. pre-ascal hyphae;ascocarp term) – hyphae of the hamathecium developing within the locules of ascolocular ascomycetes before these locules become invaded by the ascogenous hyphae, which will form the asci.
