Jump to: navigation, search

species group (noun, pl. species groups;nomenclature term) – several closely related species; species groups are frequently used informally to avoid introducing taxa based on assumptions; e. g., instead of describing new genera within a problematic taxonomic group, it may be preferable to recognize informal species groups until the phylogenetic relationships are clarified and enough evidence supports formal recognition. Related terms: species aggregates.
