lirella (noun, pl. lirellae;ascocarp term) – elongated ascocarps, oblong to linear, often branched or more or less stellate, as in Graphis. Lirellae may be derived from an ascohymenial or ascolocular ontogeny and can be interpreted as discocarps with an elongated open disk or as pyrenocarps with a slit-like opening. Related terms: hysterothecium, graphidian apothecium.
