floristic zone (noun,biogeography term, pl. floristic zones; synonym: distribution belt) – the major distribution regions of the earth's flora roughly follow the latitudes, i. e., they form belts around the globe and are roughly equivalent with the climatic belts around the earth; from North to South the following zones may be distinguished: arctic, boreal, temperate, meridional, boreosubtropical, tropical, austrosubtropical, austral and antarctic; Related terms: floristic province, floristic kingdom.
