Type
type (pl. types) – a number of objects or structures that has identical, and therefore typical or characteristic qualities; e. g., a lichen species may be subdivided into several different chemotypes if consistently the same, typical combination of secondary metabolites can be found; in contrast, chemical variants of lichen species cannot be based on a characteristic or typical combination of secondary metabolites, instead the chemistry varies and cannot be typified; cf. category, kind; also see nomenclatural type, type taxon, type specimen.
