Umbo

umbo (noun, pl. umbos;ascocarp term) – a knob-like, raised or a depressed, button-like structure; (1) a protuberance in the centre of an apothecial disk, like the boss of a shield, corresponding with sterile, strongly agglutinate hyphae forming a columnella within the hymenium, see omphalodisk; (2) a central depression on the upper side of an umbilicate thallus that corresponds to the umbilicus on the lower side.
