axil (noun, pl. axils) – the notch that forms the angle or point of divergence between two branches or lobes, or between a lateral branch or lobe and the main stem that supports it; non-technically referred to (in dubious taste) as a "crotch". The axil between two branches may be closed (imperforate) or open (perforate). Related terms: sinus.
