Outer layer

outer layer (noun, pl. outer layers;ascocarp term) – in the context of ascomycetes a general anatomical term for all wall layers surrounding the primordium, centrum and the mature ascocarp; more or less equivalent with the general term exciple in the broadest sense, i. e., including the proper (or true) exciple (parathecium) as well as the thalline exciple (amphithecium).
