Outer layer

outer layer (noun, pl. outer layers;ascocarp term) – in the context of ascomycetes a general anatomical term for all wall layers surrounding the primordium, centrum and the mature ascocarp; more or less equivalent with the general term exciple in the broadest sense, i. e., including the proper (or true) exciple (parathecium) as well as the thalline exciple (amphithecium). Related terms: envelope. This is:part of ascocarp.
