Secondary thallus

secondary thallus (noun, pl. secondary thalli) – a thallus developing from the primary thallus with a distinctly different growth morphology; not to be confused with secondary subunits, such as secondary branches or lobes that may be more narrow or smaller but generally have a similar, if not identical structure as the primary branches or lobes.
